Updates 6.9.21

Happy Hump Day everyone. Well, I didn't quite nail the Belmont, but we had it surrounded, and hopefully you had some good money on Hot Rod Charlie. By Oxbow, a winner of the Preakness but by and large a forgotten stud, he now has two high level horses that couldn't be different. Hot Rod Charlie, a classic distance horse, and County Final (owned by West Point and partners), a high level sprinter and turf horse. Oxbow excelled on both surfaces, so he is an interesting stallion to watch.

Horses in Training Update:

Rising Empire - Rising Empire was entered last week at Churchill in a 7 furlong MSW race. The $700,000 two year old owned in partnership with Russell Welch and Mathis Stables has a world of talent. Unfortunately, he ran a flat 5th. (Chart HERE) After the race, we had him given a thorough vet exam by r. Bramlage which revealed an entrapped epiglottis. This is a relatively common issue for horses, and has a corrective surgery with an extremely high success rate. "RE" also came out of the race with a chip in a knee, which will require surgery. RE was one of the best moving and imposing two year olds I'd ever seen at a sale. Just goes to show you that in this business you never know. If you'd like to learn a little more about the surgery he had (and hopefully this is the only time it will ever need to be brought up to you!), there is a good article about it HERE

Musical Millie - Musical Millie was entered on Sunday at Lone Star for a $5,000 tag following her strong win at Will Rogers. Sent off as the favorite, she was fresh early but faded to 4th in the stretch. We hadn't been able to train her lately due to an ankle issue that is sound to walk and run on but bothers her some. There is no real treatment for her, so I had to make a decision to breed her or run her for a tag. She was just barely short of the level to be a mare for me, so I made the decision to run her. I'll be watching her, as she's a special animal to me, and named after my niece! Chart of the race HERE

Newscaster - Newscaster is entered in the 8th race at Lone Star on Friday, going off a little before 6:00 CST. We wanted to try him on the turf given his sire's (Uncle Mo) propensity for turf runners, and his being a half brother to Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Champion Bulletin. This race is seven and a half furlongs on the turf, so not ideal starting point, but I'm dying to see how he performs. Link to PPs below

Tiz Life, Flashy Biz and Blake B - All continue to train and being pointed for next spots. Flashy Biz is coming back around post splint.

Mesta Park - We are pointing for a race at Lone Star on June 27th, a non winners of two life allowance. We really think he has a massive future in front of him in the OK Bred ranks as he continues to improve.

Strong Light - This Brody's Cause colt owned in partnership with West Point and Albaugh is progressing nicely for Dale Romans. Here is a link to a You Tube Video West Point posted of his most recent work. - HERE He is def. a route horse.

Red Earth Training Center - Shezapistol and the rest of the two year old's, plus Goody Two Sioux, are going through their paces. As noted in last entry, Pistol is excelling still and will continue to plan to work each Saturday. Treaty got the week off this week as he received the ultimate equipment change last week - he was gelded.
