Shezapistol - Works at Churchill x2 - And other News

SHEZAPISTOL (pictured with millionaire stable pony CHINDI) had her first workout at Churchill Down last Friday, Sept 17th, and she was every bit the pro we knew she would be. Going in company with a horse from the Helen Pitts barn, she galloped into her work along the backside, and then they began their work entering the turn. Under a firm grip the entire way, "Pistol" was always the measure of her workmate and galloped out much stronger.

Joe Rocco Jr, our go to jockey and the leading rider at the 2021 Colonial Downs meet, let me chat with him a bit after. He was very impressed with her professional manner, and the ways she handled the track as well as her fitness. His comments below:

SHEZAPISTOL had her second work at Churchill this morning, the 25th, going her first half mile in 49.40, and once again doing it easy. Hobby told me following the work that he's going to have to get a new workmate for her cause she's too fast for the first two he's tried.

All in all, she has had a great first two works and we look forward to continuing on. Hobby is very high on her, and we are all excited to get her going, but will take our time with her.

Newscaster entered at Remington Park, Oklahoma Derby Day

NEWSCASTER is entered to run in the third race on Sunday, September 26th at Remington Park, scheduled to go off about 4:03 pm. We had planned on running in the stake on the same day, the Remington Green, but as entries were taken it was going to be an over-flow field. With the combination of that, and coming back in 16 days so he may not be peak, we decided to run in the allowance instead. He will be carrying the most weight of his career, and back in 16 days, but I fully expect him to run his race. Running against several stakes winners and stakes placed runners, we will take our shot again.

GOODY TWO SIOUX is entered to run on Thursday, September 30th in the 6th race, scheduled to go off about 9:25pm . The morning line is not out as of yet, but I expect her to be the favorite or near favorite.

Keeneland September Report

- Keeneland shot of me telling Ron Moquett where to find the horses -

I've spent the majority of the last week at the Keeneland September sale, attending the sale from Wed. Sept. 15th until Wed. Sept. 22nd. As always, it is a great place to be with incredible athletes on display. This year, more so than any I can remember, it was a very difficult sale to buy horses. They were selling for a premium if they had the desired pedigree and physical, and the "diamonds" in the rough were found by all so nothing was slipping through the cracks. That being said, we did a couple of important pieces of business.

Hip 1693

First, we sold our Runhappy colt out of Sue's Good News, a half brother to Newscaster, Tiz Miz Sue and Bulletin amongst others, to a client of Hoby Kight for $125,000.00 While I think his pedigree and physical deserved a bit more, his sire has "cooled off" commercially, so it kept the price down. Still important to get some transactions done. His catalog page is below:

Hip 2610

We did make one purchase for a partnership of some great friends and clients through Crescent Capital LLC - Hip 2610, a Goldencents Colt out of the mare Appealing Cat.

We are fans of Goldencents, who is actually the sire of Shezapistol's yearling half sister, and he has proven to be a solid sire who makes runners that are durable, and some very talented. The mare is a Stakes Winner, and Graded Stakes placed, who has only had one foal to the track, and her second foal is a current two year old full brother to the above yearling. This foal was well put together, looked fast with enough bone, and had a fluid, big walk.

Here is a snap of what most pages in my catalog look like when I zero in on a horse we like - it will all look like gibberish but there is a method to all my notes/abbreviations, etc.

The horse is for a partnership, and Crescent Capital has retained 10% - which will be our second offering. The overall purchase price of the horse was $70,000, so the per 1% share cost will be similar to Shezapistol. Details to follow.

The colt is on his way to Red Earth Training Center south of Norman, and should arrive this week. We look forward to his journey.

I'll keep updating on Shezapistol et al, and look forward to the races!
