Newscaster runs 3rd and Shezapistol Update

NEWSCASTER, in the paddock prior to his race on Sunday the 26th at Remington Park, finished 3rd in a tough allowance race, with the winner being the horse he beat last time, Warlock Doc. With the race playing out in similar fashion, Warlock Doc was loose on the lead with Newscaster about 2-3 lengths off in second. When they turned for home and it was time for Newscaster to go after him, he didn't have his usual punch and couldn't make up much grown. Knowing catching the winner wasn't going to happen, our jockey Richard Eramia, just rode him home, getting caught for second, but holding on for a solid third.

I think it was a few things that caused Newscaster not to fire. The first was running back in 16 days, after being off for over 60 days, and maintaining a race every 20-30 days prior. I think it was a lot to ask in a tough field like this. Secondly, he appears to relish the thing I was worried about on the turf - more ground. I frankly think that 7.5 Furlongs is almost too short for him now, and he will be better when back going a mile or a mile and sixteenth. He will get some good rest here, and then we will look for a spot mid October or later. The condition book and the lack of options forced our hand here, and we didn't want to miss the chance to run him.

Goody Two Sioux

GOODY TWO SIOUX has been installed as the 8-5 favorite on Thursday night at Remington Park. She is in the 6th race and it should go off about 9:25 PM. Look forward to seeing anyone that wants to make it, as I'm optimistic of her chances, and feel it's about 50-50 whether she gets claimed or not. Entries HERE

Shezapistol

SHEZAPISTOL has done well following her second Churchill work this past weekend. I had the chance to chat with Joe Rocco Jr, who was aboard for the work, while he was in town this week to ride the Oklahoma Derby card. He said she did it easily compared to her workmate, and was in a firm grip the whole way. Says his favorite thing about her is her intelligence. He started to tell me she reminded him of another one of our horses.....but I wouldn't let him get it out because I don't want to jinx it. HA
